About This Tour
Martvili and Okatse Canyons are two of western Georgia's most spectacular natural wonders — the kind of places that make you wonder why you haven't heard about them before. Tucked away in the lush Samegrelo region near Kutaisi, these canyons offer completely different but equally breathtaking experiences. Martvili Canyon is all about intimate beauty — you'll glide through narrow turquoise waters on a boat, surrounded by 20-40 meter high canyon walls covered in hanging vegetation and waterfalls. It's almost otherworldly, like something out of a fantasy film.
Okatse Canyon, on the other hand, is pure adrenaline and grandeur. Here, you'll walk along a suspended metal walkway bolted to the canyon wall, 140 meters above the roaring Okatse River below. The walkway stretches for 780 meters, offering jaw-dropping views of the deep gorge, waterfalls, and the endless green Kolkheti lowlands in the distance. It's thrilling, beautiful, and absolutely unforgettable. Both canyons are less crowded than Georgia's more famous attractions, so you'll have plenty of space to soak it all in.
This is a full-day tour from Kutaisi, or we can do it as a comfortable 2-day trip from Tbilisi with an overnight in Kutaisi. Along the way, we can add Prometheus Cave — one of Georgia's largest and most impressive cave systems with stunning formations. The drive through Samegrelo is beautiful in itself, passing through small villages, endless greenery, and countryside that feels wonderfully untouched. If you love nature, adventure, and discovering places that still feel like secrets, this tour is for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to book the boat ride at Martvili Canyon in advance?
No need to book in advance. We can arrange the boat ride when we arrive at Martvili Canyon. During peak season (summer months), there might be a short wait, but we'll time our visit to avoid the crowds. The boat rides run regularly throughout the day.
Is the Okatse Canyon walkway safe for people afraid of heights?
The walkway is very sturdy with solid railings on both sides. While it's suspended 140m above the canyon, the walkway itself is quite wide and feels secure. Many people with mild fear of heights manage just fine by focusing on the incredible views ahead rather than down. You can always turn back if needed — no pressure at all.
What are the entrance fees for Martvili and Okatse?
Both canyons have entrance fees that are not included in the tour price. Martvili Canyon charges for entry plus the boat ride (around 25-30 GEL total), and Okatse Canyon has a separate entrance fee (around 17 GEL). Prices are reasonable and worth every lari. I'll have the exact current prices when we go.
Can we visit Prometheus Cave as well?
Absolutely! Prometheus Cave is on the way and makes a perfect addition to the tour. It's one of Georgia's most impressive caves with stunning stalactites and stalagmites, plus an underground river. Just let me know and we'll include it in the itinerary. It adds about 1-1.5 hours to the tour.
What's the best season to visit these canyons?
Spring to autumn (April through October) is ideal. The vegetation is lush and green, waterfalls are flowing beautifully, and the weather is pleasant. Samegrelo region gets quite a bit of rain, which keeps everything gorgeously green, so bring a rain jacket just in case. Winter can be cold and some facilities might be limited.
